Writing Your Articles
Remember that your goal is not to give away your best writing to the article directories. Instead, think of it as simply giving people a taste of what you know about your topic. With that said, I will tell you that my articles are written at the high school reading level and with a simple technique that I have perfected over the past few years.
I want to teach you what I refer to as my 5 Paragraph Model for writing articles. Here it is:
Paragraph 1 – Start out with a statement of fact. You want to ‘enroll’ your reader from the very beginning and starting out with a statement they can agree with is the best way to do this. For example, if you are writing about going scuba diving with your family you might begin your article with a statement such as ‘Scuba diving is an excellent activity that your entire family will enjoy.’
Next, choose three ‘focus points’ to discuss within the body of the article. For the scuba diving topic I might choose:
-
- Choosing a destination
- Making sure you have the correct equipment
- Other related activities to get involved in
These would be the three focus points I would introduce in the first paragraph. It would go something like this:
Scuba diving is an excellent activity that your entire family will enjoy. If you are thinking about taking a family vacation to scuba dive you will want to think about choosing a destination, making sure you have access to the correct equipment, and other related activities that you and your family are sure to enjoy. I’ll go into more detail about each of these points so that you’ll have a better idea of how to begin planning for your trip.
The idea is to write approximately eighty words for each paragraph so that the five paragraphs will be at least four hundred words. That’s the minimum word count for most of the directories, and it also works well to hold your reader’s attention so they will make it through to the end of your article.
In the second paragraph you elaborate on the first focus point. You only need three or four sentences to get to the eighty word mark.
The third and fourth paragraphs will go into more details about your second and third focus points.

The fifth, and final, paragraph of your article is where you sum up what you have just written.
Here is an example of that:
As you can see, there will be something for everyone to do when you decide to take a family vacation based on your love of scuba diving. There are many suitable locations around the world, it is easy to have access to the correct equipment that is needed, and there are also many other related activities you and your family members will enjoy. The idea is to have fun in a new location doing what you love to do.
You can see that I’ve written what is referred to as a ‘soft’ ending. This means that I do not tell the reader that this is the end of the article. I also do not include my name here, or anything to do with a copyright date, or an email address or other contact information.
These are all things that I have observed from other article writers. Instead, use this soft ending approach so that the reader will continue reading all the way to the Resource Box. I ’ll go into more details on that after we’ve talked about the titles.

Your Article Title
I typically write my title after I have written the article. I found that if I chose a title first it was more difficult to make sure my article would fit the title. You can do it any way that works best for you, but make sure to put your main keyword phrase at the beginning of your title. I use the Free Keyword Tool from Google to search for the right phrase for my
Topic:
https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
For this example I would find out how many people are doing a search on the Internet for information on scuba diving vacations. My search show me that people are also looking for information on scuba diving vacation packages and scuba diving trips. Then I would decide which phrase is more closely related to what I am promoting in my article. This might be my blog or website, or even an affiliate program. I might end up using this as my title:
Scuba Diving Vacation Trips – How To Plan A Fun Family Vacation Around Scuba Diving
You can see that I put the keyword phrase at the beginning, then use a hyphen so that I can make the title even longer. This works best for SEO (search engine optimization) as well.

The Resource Box
The Resource Box is also referred to as the author’s bio. This will appear directly after your article ends, and looks like the final paragraph. You want readers to smoothly transition from reading the last sentence of your article to reading your Resource Box, enabling them to easily see the link you have included.
I typically start out my Resource Box with something like:
As you can see or something just as enticing.
You will want to use something called anchor text in your Resource Box to link to whatever you are promoting. Anchor text is simply three or four words (you are allowed four words maximum for this) that includes your keyword phrase. It tells the search engines what your site is about, and over time this can be extremely valuable. Here is the structure of the tag you will need to use to do this properly:
<a href=http://yoursite.com>Your keyword phrase</a>
This is called the href tag. Here is a link to the site that explains this in greater detail:

Submitting To The Article Directories
Now it’s time to submit your article to the article directories. I use several free ones and one paid article distribution site to give myself the best chance of driving highly-targeted traffic to my sites. Here are the ones that help me the most:
http://WryteStuff.com (formerly SearchWarp.com)
Submit Your Article This is the paid site ($47/month) I use. My affiliate link is http://SubmitMoreArticles.com and this entitles you to their free training course and materials.
Start out by doing your own article submissions. Over time you will find that it’s easier to have someone do this for you to free up more of your time for other, more profitable endeavors.

Thinking Beyond The Article
The idea of content creation is to re purpose everything you write into multiple formats and more. It all begins with your original article and is then expanded into:
Blog posts
Short Reports
Teleseminars/Webinars
Podcasts
Digital products
Books for the Kindle
Physical books
Much, much more
Allow your creativity and imagination to run wild as you think of even more ways to repurpose the articles you are writing. Within a few months you will have enough of your own original content to build a huge online empire, the way I have done since 2006.
When you have your first, or next, article published on one of the article directories, send me the link to it online and I will share it with my community.
